Goodnight Daisy

DH put Daisy to sleep this evening.

Daisy was my Amber Star,  and was a really docile and lovely girl.  She was the first girl who was content for me to catch and hold and stroke her.  She was a fantastic escape artist,  her speciality being able to limbo under the slightest gap in a bit of netting.  She had been with us for just over 2 years 2 months, and was 2 and a half years old, not an unreasonable age for her breed.

You may remember from my blogs sometime ago that Daisy had been unwell.  She's been on a couple of courses of antibiotics and, although her symptoms improved, they didn't clear the problem.  So, she's been living on borrowed time for some months.

Her breathing had got a bit more laboured over the last few days but, up to and including yesterday, she was eating happily, runnning around, scratching, laying eggs, dustbathing, and generally doing chickeny things.    Today she was spending more time breathing than eating and this evening  she sounded like Darth Vader.  I picked her up to check her and found her crop was nearly empty.    It was time to let her go.

DH did the deed for me.

Daisy (and Lily at the back) aged 16 weeks

Daisy (with Delilah) aged 2 yrs and a bit.
